Hall of Fame Dinners


The Struthers School Foundation for Educational Excellence awarded Phil Ginnetti and Pete Pirone, Sr. at the 2015 Hall of Fame Awards Banquet. Both Dr. Phillip Ginnetti and Pete Pirone, Sr. have distinguished themselves in the field of education and brought distinction to themselves, our community and our school system.

The Keynote Speaker for the evening was Jim Tressel, President of Youngstown State University. Both honorees were awarded proclamations from US Congressman Tim Ryan, State Senator Joe Schiavoni, Ohio Representatives Michele Lepore-Hagan, Struthers Mayor, Terry Stocker and the Struthers City Council.

The Struthers School Foundation for Excellence in Education held its Fourth Hall of Fame Awards Banquet at the Embassy on Thursday, April 28, 2011. The Foundation honored Judge James R. Lanzo and the late Doris Lancy. Both of these individuals have been lifelong supporters of the community and school system. This award is given to individuals who have been involved in the Struthers School District and have gone out of their way to make a significant difference in the lives of others. These individuals are distinguished in their chosen professions, dedicated to service with integrity, and have been wonderful role models for our youth. Foundation President Roz Terek served as Master of Ceremonies. The invocation was led by Father Bernard Bonnot. The Keynote Speaker was Ron Iarussi, Superintendent of the Mahoning County Educational Service Center. Both honorees were awarded proclamations from US Representative Tim Ryan, State Senator Joe Schiavoni, Ohio Representatives Ronald V. Gerberry, and Robert F. Hagan as well as the Ohio Senate. Foundation Vice-President Kristina Daley presented the Hall of Fame Award posthumously to her friend, Doris Lancy. Accepting on behalf of Doris were her husband, Ed Lancy and their daughter Sherry. Judge Lanzo accepted his award from former student, colleague and friend John Sveda, who is a Foundation Board Member.

The Struthers School Foundation for Excellence in Education is a non-profit organization, governed by a Board of Directors, formed to support expanded opportunities for all students in the Struthers City Schools. The Foundation’s mission is to identify and provide funding for educational programs that go beyond the responsibility of the Board of Education and the resources available to the school system.

The Foundation was established to give alumni, community members, businesses, and all concerned, an opportunity to support the academics of the school district.

The Foundation would like to thank the banquet committee for all their work in preparation for this event. A special thanks goes to the Struthers Jazz Band led by Director Edward Stiles for providing a variety of selections during registration and dinner.

The Struthers School Foundation for Excellence in Education held its Third Hall of Fame Awards Banquet at the Sulmona Valley Hall in Struthers Saturday, May 9, 2009. The Foundation honored Dan Mamula and Carol Campbell. Both of these individuals have been lifelong supporters of the community and school system. This award is given to individuals who have been involved in the Struthers School District and have gone out of their way to make a significant difference in the lives of others. These individuals are distinguished in their chosen professions, dedicated to service with integrity, and have been wonderful role models for our youth. Tom Baringer served as Master of Ceremonies for President Phil Ginnette who could not attend. The invocation was led by The Rev. Bernard Bonnot, Pastor, Saint Nicholas Roman Catholic Church. The keynote speaker was Judge James R. Lanzo, City of Struthers. Proclamations and plaques were also sent from State Senator Joseph Schiavone and Congressman Tim Ryan and were presented by Roslyn Terek and Drew Hirt. Roslyn Terek presented the award to Charles Campbell for his wife, the late Carol Campbell. Drew Hirt presented the award to Dan Mamula.

The Struthers School Foundation for Excellence in Education held its Second Hall of Fame Awards Banquet at St Nicholas Church Hall Saturday. The Foundation honored Dan Becker and the late Frances Marando . Both of these individuals have been lifelong supporters of the community and school system. This award is given to individuals who have been involved in the Struthers School District and have gone out of their way to make a significant difference in the lives of others. These individuals are distinguished in their chosen professions, dedicated to service with integrity, and have been wonderful role models for our youth. Foundation President Anthony Quahliero served as Master of Ceremonies. The keynote speaker was Dr Philip Ginnetti, Dean of the Beeghley College of Education at Youngstown State University. Dr Ginnetti is also a Foundation Board Member. Struthers Mayor Dan Mamula presented a proclamation to each honoree. Carol Campbell and Roslyn Terek presented the Hall of Fame Award to Mike Marando, son of Frances. Past Hall of Fame recipient Laddie Fedor presented the Hall of Fame Award to Dan Becker.

Inducted into Struthers Foundation Hall of Fame
Event Date: April 16, 2005
A special celebration dinner was held at The Embassy Saturday, April 16th to honor and show appreciation to the two deserving gentlemen who were selected to receive this first time award. Anthony J Lariccia and Laddie Fedor are graduates of both Struthers High School and Youngstown State University.

This award is given to individuals who have been involved in the Struthers School District and have gone out of their way to make a significant difference in the lives of others. These individuals are distinguished in their chosen professions, dedicated to service with integrity, and have been wonderful role models for our youth.

MayorDaniel Mamula opened the ceremonies by welcoming the 190 guests in attendance. Dr. Sandra J.DiBacco spoke on the mission of the Struthers School Foundation for Educational Excellence. The Rev. William Petrunak gave the invocation.

Anthony Frattaroli introduced Dr. David Sweet, President of Youngstown State University who was the keynote speaker for the evening. He praised both gentlemen for their accomplishments in life, and their unselfish giving back to community. He praised the Struthers Schools for the accomplished students it has sent to YSU through the years. He mentioned many local individuals who have gone on to become successful who are respected and admired throughout the area. He spoke of the strong family structures that exist within the Struthers community and the support and spirit that comes from the individuals that live here. Dr. Sweet gave a biographical account of each man’s life.

Brad Ramsbottom proudly introduced his lifelong friend Laddie. Brad spoke of Laddie’s willingness to do whatever needed to be done and to carry through until his goals were accomplished. He spoke of Laddie’s caring nature and his always trying to improve and make things better.

Mary Ann Morell was honored to introduce Anthony, who has been a friend since childhood. She spoke of all that he has done to encourage the importance of cherishing friendships, being a support system to one another, and caring about others.
She quoted an old Greek proverb that applies to both Anthony and Laddie: “ A society grows when men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in.”
